Days of our Lives Recap: Three Marriage Proposals, Two Yeses

Of the trio of potential Salem brides, only two of them agreed to walk down the aisle.

In the Days of our Lives recap for August 7, 2023, wedding — well, proposal — fever gripped several Salemites, but only two of the three women who were asked actually said yes.

In addition, Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) learned a most inconvenient truth courtesy of her youngest, while Leo (Greg Rikaart) continued to prove what a scumbag weasel he truly was. Now, let’s dig a little deeper into what exactly happened.

Having successfully snowed a curious Eric (temporary recast Jason Gerhart) — thanks entirely to her quick-thinking bestie — Sloan (Jessica Serfaty) showed Melinda (Tina Huang) out of her apartment and insisted that she owed her BIG time.

After thanking Melinda for keeping her secret, Sloan returned to find Eric on bended knee, ring (and ring box) in hand. Would she marry him? You bet she will!

Opposite this, EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) returned home to find Nicole (Arianne Zucker) with her dander up. And the reason for her moody ‘tude? Eric, of course. More specifically, it was Eric’s plan to propose to that no-good sneaky snake Sloan.

But she’s not upset…per se. And you know why? Because she’s not invested in Eric’s life or who he decides to propose to. No sir, uh uh, not Nicole. No, she’s invested in her and EJ’s lives and their life together. EJ is the man she wants to be with. That’s where her head is at.

EJ then questioned exactly how much she wants to be with him. Is it enough to…accept a second marriage proposal? A second marriage proposal that he put to her right then and right there.

Nicole hedged for a bit. EJ granted that his actions could be perceived as a spur-of-the-moment reaction to hearing that Eric popped the question to his lady love, but he assured Nicole that his question was genuine, heartfelt, and very much what he wanted. So, will Nicole agree to become his wife? Yes, yes she will!

Meanwhile, Chloe (Nadia Bjorlin) begged Xander (Paul Telfer) to convince her that his proposal had nothing to do with Gwen (Emily O’Brien) and her quicky marriage to that no good, very bad, “total wanker” Dimitri (Peter Porte).

Xander endeavored to do just that, and wound-up convincing Chloe of the fact. Unfortunately, he, in turn, got her worried that said proposal had something to do with Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) instead.

Again, Xander worked overtime to soothe Chloe’s fears. He’s most certainly not asking Chloe to marry him in order to prove something to all the women that came before. It has nothing to do with that, and EVERYTHING to do with Chloe. He wants her, he needs her.

Also, he wouldn’t mind having some kiddies with his would-be-fiancée. He was good at being a dad. He misses being a dad. And that’s why he’s proposing what he’s proposing. It’s not just about a marriage, but a family.

More flattery, more waxing lyrical. Chloe almost bought into it all. Almost. But rather than let Xander put the ring on her finger, Chloe declared that she needs a little time…and that Xander needs some time to figure out his feelings for Sarah.

After hiding Dimitri and his clothes in his suite’s bathroom, Leo opened the door to Gwen. She’d come to say goodbye to him and get a few hugs. Oh, how she almost wishes that he could tag along for her honeymoon. Almost.

The jig was very nearly up when Gwen rumbled that there was someone sequestered in the loo, but Leo talked her out of insisting to meet his new conquest face-to-face. After all, his new man was married, and his wife wasn’t aware of the affair, and Leo was so very deeply ashamed.

Gwen issued several platitudes that only made Leo feel worse and then she took her leave. Dimitri emerged and revealed that he’d booked Leo a plane ticket — first class, natch — and a room at the hotel he and Gwen were staying at in Iceland — in a completely separate wing, of course. Leo protested…slightly. Then he started packing.

In Chicago, Maggie confronted a grocery bag bearing Sarah and implored her to come clean. Why keep her “secret” any longer? Bonnie (Judi Evans) had already ratted her out. Why not just come out and say that she was…dating Rex Brady (Kyle Lowder)?

Oh, that! Yes, Sarah would happily admit to that. What she wasn’t too enthused to eventually do was show Maggie her pregnant belly and cop to the baby being Xander’s. Maggie implored Sarah to tell Xander the truth. After all, the baby is just as much his as it is hers. Sarah did not agree. Maggie, for her part, decided that if anyone should tell Xander it should be Sarah, so it’s now in her hands.
